Visit visa routes

Standard Visitor Visa

You want to visit the UK for tourism, family, business, or medical treatment. The most common visitor route. Valid for up to 6 months per visit. You must show you will leave at the end of your stay and that you can support yourself financially. You cannot work or access public funds.

Marriage Visitor Visa

You want to enter the UK to marry or register a civil partnership. A 6-month visa specifically for ceremonies in the UK. You must give 28 days’ notice to the register office. Unlike the fiancé visa, this route does not allow you to stay in the UK after the ceremony.

Business Visitor Visa

The Business Visitor Visa is the UK immigration route that allows overseas nationals to travel to the United Kingdom for a short stay to undertake business activities. It is granted for a maximum of six months per visit.

Transit Visa

You are passing through the UK on the way to another country. Two options: the Direct Airside Transit Visa (if you stay in the airport international zone) and the Visitor in Transit visa (if you need to pass through UK border control). Not all nationalities need a transit visa.

Not sure which visitor route you need?

The requirements depend on your nationality, the purpose of your trip, and how long you plan to stay. Some nationals are visa-exempt but now need an ETA. Others need a full visitor visa application with supporting documents and financial evidence.
