This page explains what our Indian Law Advice Service covers, how it works, what it costs, and how to book a consultation.

What is the Indian Law Advice Service?

The Indian Law Advice Service is a structured consultation led by a Senior Indian Advocate for NRIs, OCI cardholders, British citizens and foreign nationals who need to deal with property, inheritance or legal matters in India from the UK. Most clients own property in India, have inherited land or a flat, or need to manage legal affairs back home, but they live in the UK and cannot find a professional here. That is the gap we fill.

The Detailed Indian Law Advice Session sets out your legal position, the documents required, the risks, and the recommended next steps. Advice covers property law, inheritance, Power of Attorney, PAN and OCI matters, and is grounded in current Indian law.

What we advise on

Our Indian law advice sessions cover the full range of property and legal situations faced by NRIs, OCIs and British citizens with ties to India.

  • Selling property in India: the sale process, required documents, capital gains tax, and repatriation of proceeds under FEMA. Where you cannot travel, we prepare a Power of Attorney to authorise a representative.
  • Inheritance and succession: Indian succession law, the difference between the Hindu Succession Act and the Indian Succession Act, succession and legal heir certificates, and transferring inherited property through mutation of land records.
  • Gifts and transfers: gift deeds, relinquishment deeds and family settlement agreements for transferring Indian property to relatives or others.
  • Property management and disputes: tenant disputes, encroachment, property tax compliance, partition suits, and division of jointly owned land or flats.
  • Title verification: review of property documents, encumbrance certificates and land records to confirm clear title before you buy or sell.
  • Ownership rules for NRIs and OCIs: what you can and cannot legally own in India, including restrictions on agricultural land, plantation property and farmhouses.
  • Power of Attorney and PAN: general or specific Powers of Attorney for transactions, legal proceedings or financial management, and PAN Card applications for property dealings and tax.
