Priority Services Reinstated for UK Family Visa Applications

The Home Office has recently announced the reintroduction of priority services for pending family visa applications submitted outside of the UK. This is welcome news for those who have already applied for a family visa to settle in the UK as the fiance, partner, or family member of a British citizen or settled person. The standard processing time for these applications is usually 12 weeks, but due to the prioritization of Ukraine Visa Scheme applications, the processing time may take up to 24 weeks.

Existing applicants for pending partner or family visa applications will be contacted by email and given the option to upgrade to a 3 week priority service at a cost of £573. Applications will be decided within 15 working days of receipt of payment. This means that applicants who have been waiting for months for a decision on their partner or family visa application can now pay an additional fee and receive a quicker decision on their application.

The reintroduction of priority services for pending family visa applications does not offer immediate relief for those considering making a new partner or family visa application overseas. These applicants still face a wait of up to 24 weeks for a decision, which is a significant increase from the standard 12-week processing time.

When applying with family members, it is not possible to get different decision times for individual family members as you will get a decision for everyone at the same time. To get a faster decision each family member will need to pay for priority services to get a faster decision.

A decision may take longer if you have used the UK Immigration: ID Check app to submit your application and your family members need to have their fingerprints and photographs taken at a visa application centre. You should get a decision within 5 working days after the last family member’s appointment.

It is important to note that not all visa centres offer faster decisions. To find out if you can get a faster decision through your visa application centre, you will need to check the relevant visa centre’s website.
